Mathematics at Lillington Nursery and Primary School
We aim to help our pupils develop positive attitudes towards mathematics. Our pupils have access to a challenging, motivating and well resourced curriculum that develops their fluency, promotes reasoning and enhances their problem solving skills.
This week's top Mathletics scorer is Alia Jenkinson with 5,407 points. Two weeks in a row now!
In key stages 1 and 2, we use Power Maths - a maths scheme created in partnership with White Rose Maths and approved by the Department for Education. It is an exciting, whole class mastery approach, designed to meet the needs of every child.
Daily mathematics lessons include using rich and high quality textbooks that provide a coherent structure through the curriculum and support children on their journey towards deeper understanding. Children also use their practice books daily to complete intelligently structured practice questions independently.
Children with a greater depth of understanding in mathematics are challenged by using the 'deepening' activities of the scheme, teachers' bespoke tasks and activities in the Mathletics eBooks. Children needing extra support are challenged by using the 'strengthening' activities of the scheme as well as teachers' bespoke learning support tasks.
At Lillington, children have weekly mathematics home-learning activities appropriate to their ability and year group. Where possible, home-learning tasks will be active, fun and require collaboration with parents/carers. Maths of the Day home-learning activities are used and parents can find more information using the following URL.
Maths of the Day allows teachers to instantly access 1000+ lesson and homework plans to inspire, motivate and engage pupils to actively learn maths.
All of the activities are linked to the national curriculum and encourage the children to learn and use their mathematic skills in different, active situations. It has been praised by Ofsted, head-teachers, inspectors and maths consultants.
