Maple is part of Lillington Primary & Nursery School providing specialist teaching for up to 8 Key Stage 2 pupils with Communication and Interaction needs who have found mainstream provision unsuitable.
The environment is adapted to provide a safe, calm, quiet space with a high ratio of adults to support. We endeavour to make our rooms communication friendly and address sensory needs.
Expectations of behaviour are high, clear and consistent, reinforced by a multi-layered reward system that ensures success. As part of this, we seek to build a strong and supportive partnership with parents, through regular, open and honest communication.
Our curriculum covers all National Curriculum subject areas, and our teaching is adapted to meet the individual needs of each child. We use the experience of our adults within the unit to provide interventions to address specific needs. We also work closely with a range of other professionals (Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, etc) to deliver their programs to support our children’s needs.
As part of Lillington Primary, we aim to be included and integrate with the school where possible. This may be as little as joining a nurture or lunch group for a short period each week up to regularly attending daily lessons with their peer class.
There are specific criteria for being accepted into Maple. These criteria are:-The child must have an EHCP (Education Health Care Plan).
-The main area of need must be Communication and Interaction.
-Parents/ carers must be directed, by their Plan Co-ordinator, to consider Maple.
